Crews Break Ground on East Main Road Water Extension Project
Town and Village crews have begun work on the Westfield Water Main Extension Project in the Town of Westfield. The project will extend municipal water supplied by the Village of Westfield to the portion of East Main Road between the village/town line and McKinley Road. The existing 1 ¾ -inch water mains, which currently provide inadequate water pressure, will be replaced by approximately 4,1000 feet of 12-inch PVC water main. Fire hydrants will also be installed to provide fire protection to the area.
The Town of Westfield was awarded a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) to fund the $553,750 project which will provide water to 18 residential homes, 14 commercial buildings, six duplex units and 40 mobile homes.
“This project has been a long time coming,” Town Supervisor Martha Bills said at the project ground-breaking last week. “Our thanks goes out to the residents and businesses in the area for their patience as the project came together.”
Town and Village crews will work together on the project, led by Town Highway Superintendent David Babcock and Village Street Superintendent Ed LeBarron. Rex Tolman, principal with Tolman Engineering PLLC of Jamestown, designed the project and is overseeing its construction. Attorney Michael Bolender, who wrote the grant for the project, is providing administrative and technical support. Salaries and equipment costs for the cooperative venture are reimbursed through the grant funding.
“The Town is very happy to be in a position to improve the municipal water in this area,” Bills said. “It will be a real benefit to the residents and property owners and to the Town as a whole and we thank Dave Carr and the Village of Westfield for their cooperation in helping to make it happen.
